Be prepared: what to expect at your wedding makeup trial

It’s engagement season and you’re probably diving headfirst into the world of bridal preparation. You might be feeling a bit overwhelmed…that’s normal! There’s so much to think about, so much to plan and a lot of questions unanswered.

If you’re thinking ahead to your wedding day, you’re likely visualising yourself in a beautiful gown, looking the best you’ve ever looked. But how do you get from A to B? That is…knowing ‘Absolutely Nothing’ to ‘Bridal Beauty’?

We’re here to help you understand the process more easily. First things first, when you choose your bridal hair and makeup artist, you’ll need to have a trial. It’s very rare that a wedding hair and makeup artist just shows up on the big day itself! Having a trial ensures you meet your artist ahead of your wedding – not only to ensure they create the look you want, but to help you feel comfortable and to hopefully create a long-lasting relationship.

So, what can you expect from a bridal hair and makeup trial?

Get to know your artist
A trial run is more than just a practice run for your bridal hair and makeup. It’s important that you feel really comfortable and that you can have a great time whilst creating your perfect wedding look. Having a good laugh is important, too – it’s supposed to be fun! At the trial you’ll spend a couple of hours with your artist, talking through ideas and starting to see what the final picture is going to look like.

Bring your inspo
You may have seen a wedding hairstyle or look that you’re absolutely in LOVE with, and that’s great! Bring it along. In fact, bring loads of things with you. A mood board, if you feel like it. The more the better, as this will give your artist a much better idea of not just the look, but the entire theme of your wedding.

Find your perfect look
A professional wedding hair and makeup artist will always try to please their bride. They can use their expertise and knowledge to help you find a style that ties in with your inspo and also what you naturally have. They will take into account your face shape and hair type and may even suggest something that will work even better for you. The aim is to work together to create something beautiful and your wedding trial is the perfect time to discuss your options and to try several different looks that will work for you.

Rehearsal for the big day
If you didn’t know yet, wedding days tend to run to a tight schedule. If you’re planning an elaborate look, it’s good to know how long this will take so that you can factor it in and not leave your other half waiting at the altar! If you’re planning a natural look, you can plan to get a few more hours of sleep rather than waking up at the crack of dawn, too! We hope you feel more comfortable, knowing what a bridal hair and makeup trial is for and how it works. It’s supposed to be a relaxed, happy and exciting part of the process, so have fun with it!
