5 Questions To Ask Your Bridal Makeup Artist

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, so of course you want to look and feel your very best. That’s why hiring a professional bridal makeup artist is a great way to ensure that you and your bridal party look flawless on the big day – in real life and for those all-important wedding photos! But with so many makeup artists out there, how do you know which one to choose? The best way to ensure you find the right artist is by asking the right questions during your initial consultation.

So here are five questions you should ask before booking your bridal makeup artist.

What Products Do You Use?

One of the most important things to consider when choosing a wedding makeup artist is the products they use. This will help you determine whether or not their products are compatible with your skin type and if they align with any specific needs or preferences you may have (i.e., vegan-friendly or hypo-allergenic products). Ask what brands they typically work and voice any skin concerns to see how they handle them.

Who Will Be Doing My Makeup?

It’s always good to find out who will be doing your makeup on the big day—Do they have a team? In which case will it be the same person you are speaking to? Will it be the same person as during your trial run? It may also be worth asking how many people they can accommodate on the morning of if you’re planning on having multiple family members or friends in attendance. You can often get a better rate with more people having makeup services.

How Long Will Each Look Take?

You’ll need to figure out how much time each person in your bridal party will need for their look so that everyone looks perfect without keeping them waiting too long. We generally allow 20-30 minutes for bridesmaids and mothers, and 10 minutes for male members of the bridal party. Applying lashes can take more time so mention this if you or your bridal party would like false lashes.

Do You Offer Touch-Ups Throughout The Day?

This question will help give you an idea of what kind of aftercare services they offer, such as touch-ups throughout the day or even reapplication services after dinner/dancing has ended (if necessary). They may be able to stay on for the day, return in the evening, or send another artist later. This will usually be an additional cost and finding out your options can help with budgeting.

Do You Have Any Additional Services Available?

Some makeup artists may offer additional services like hair styling, spray tanning, false lash application, etc. which could save you time and money in the long run! If your bridal makeup artist doesn’t offer them they should be able to recommend someone. And it never hurts to ask about any special packages or discounts they may offer – if you don’t ask, you don’t get!

So when it comes time to choose a wedding makeup artist, there are some key questions that should be asked upfront in order to ensure you budget correctly, they are also a great way to sound out a makeup artist with regards to how they respond.

Asking about product preference, who is doing your makeup, timing expectations, touch-up services available, and any additional services offered can help narrow down potential candidates so that you can find exactly what works for both your needs and budget.
